Materials Needed:

- Flashlight (1 for teacher, 2-3 for activities)

- White projection screen or blank wall

- Shadow cards:

  • Frog card (2-3 cards)

  • Fly card (2-3 cards)

- Card holders or stands

- Collection of toys:

  • Small toys (cars, animals, blocks)

  • Medium toys (dolls, larger animals)

  • Large toys (stuffed animals)

- Distance markers on floor (tape lines)

- Safety note: All materials should be child-safe, no sharp edges


Lesson Procedure

3 mins - Welcome Time

• Lead "Hello Song"

• Dim room lights slightly

• Show flashlight beam on wall

• Create small and large hand shadows

 

5 mins - Discovery Chat

• Display frog shadow card close to wall

• Move card back to show size change

• Point to big and small shadows

• Create simple movement with shadows

 

7 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Frog and Fly Story

• Position screen or white wall

• Place frog card near wall (small shadow)

• Move frog card back (big shadow)

• Add fly card to create story

• Demonstrate distance changes

• Invite children to observe size changes

• Help children create their own shadows

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Dancing Shadows

Part 1 (6 mins):

• Select various toys

• Create toy shadows

• Move flashlight closer and farther

• Show shadow size changes

• Guide children to watch movement

 

Part 2 (6 mins):

• Hold toys at different distances

• Create moving shadows

• Invite children to make predictions

• Support children in shadow exploration

 

15 mins - Hands-On Challenge 3: Size Investigation

Part 1 (7 mins):

• Place toys on distance markers

• Create shadows of each toy

• Compare shadow sizes

• Show how distance affects size

 

Part 2 (8 mins):
