Materials Needed:

1. "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle

2. Projector (for YouTube song)

3. Number flashcards (one, two, three, four, five)

4. Plush toy or picture of a caterpillar

Lesson Procedure

1. **Warm-Up (5 mins)**: Start the lesson with a cheerful greeting. Introduce the numbers using the number flashcards and encourage students to repeat after you. Use the target instruction "Show me..." while showing the flashcards.

2. **Story Introduction (10 mins)**: Show the children the cover of the book and introduce it as today's story. Introduce the target instructions by demonstrating them with the flashcards. For example, say "Show me three" and then "Count with me..."

3. **Story Time (10 mins)**: Read the story aloud, using a lot of gestures and facial expressions to make the story engaging. Pause after each page to point to the caterpillar and the fruits and encourage the students to do the same. Stop the story when the caterpillar had finished 5 oranges. Use the target instructions to engage students, for example, "Show me one apple," or "Can you count with me?"

4. **Review and Closure (5 mins)**: Sing the counting song "[How Many Fingers? | Kids Songs | Super Simple Songs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNw1SSz18Gg)" as a review of the target vocabulary and instructions. Encourage the students to dance along with the song and show the corresponding numbers when they appear in the song. Use the target instructions to guide students during the song, like "Show me three," or "Can you count with me?" Praise the students for their participation and efforts.

Part 2: Art and Craft Activity

Activity: "Leafy Caterpillar"

Learning Objectives

By the end of this activity, students should be able to:

1. Enhance their number recognition skills and vocabulary.

2. Develop fine motor skills through engaging in the craft activity.

Materials Needed:

1. Pre-cut leaf-shaped paper plates with a hole in the middle

2. Green paint

3. Popsicle sticks

4. Red paper circles (or pompoms)

5. Green paper circles (or pompoms)

6. Craft glue

7. Black marker / googly eyes

8. Sponge

Lesson Procedure

1. **Instructions (5 mins)**: Clearly explain the activity to the children. Demonstrate how to stamp green paint on the pre-cut leaf-shaped paper plate to make it look like a leaf. Show them how to attach the red and green circles (or pompoms) on the Popsicle stick to form the caterpillar, reminding them that the caterpillar has one red head and five green body segments , leaving some space at the end of the Popsicle stick so the children can hold and move the caterpillar. Show them the sample you prepared beforehand as a reference.

Remarks:

When sticking the circles (or pompoms) onto the Popsicle sticks, ensure the children leave some space at the end of the stick. This will allow them to hold their caterpillar comfortably and move it in and out of the hole, enhancing their fine motor skills and adding a fun element to their craft.

2. **Craft Time (15 mins)**: Guide the children as they engage in the craft activity. Encourage them to recall the numbers from their earlier lessons. As you move around to monitor their progress, be sure to use a marker to write their names on the back of their paper plates.

3. **Review and Closure (5 mins)**: Invite each child to present their "Leafy Caterpillar" to the class, asking them questions about it such as "How many green body segments does your caterpillar have?" or "Can we count together?" Commend their effort and creativity.

4. **Cleanup Time (5 mins)**: Assist the children in tidying up their work area and washing their hands after the craft activity. This is an excellent chance to instil in them the value of cleanliness and responsibility.
