Lesson Preparation

- Large bird picture cards showing clear features

- "Bird" and "Not Bird" animal picture cards

- Materials for binoculars:

  • Toilet paper rolls (2 per child)

  • Yarn/string

  • Stickers for decoration

  • Coloured paper

  • Coloured tape

- Bird pictures posted around the room

- Bird puppet/soft toy for demonstration


Lesson Procedure

**3 mins - Welcome Time**

• Sing "Hello Song"

• Introduce bird puppet: "Meet my friend Birdie!"

• Simple bird movements together (flapping wings)

 

**5 mins - Discovery Chat: All About Birds**

• Show large pictures of different birds

• Point to key features: "Wings to fly!", "Feathers so soft!", "Beak for eating!"

• Use simple gestures to demonstrate each feature

• Encourage children to copy movements

 

**10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Bird Body Parts**

• Use large bird picture/puppet

• Part 1 (5 mins):

  - Teacher points to parts: "Where are the wings?"

  - Children point to their own "wings" (arms)

  - Simple phrases: "Wings fly!", "Beak eat!"

• Part 2 (5 mins):

  - Show "Bird" and "Not Bird" pictures

  - Simple sorting game: "Is this a bird?"

  - Clear movements: thumbs up/down

 

**15 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Binoculars Craft**

• Set up materials at tables
