LCM Drama L13

Lesson Plan: Lesson 13 – Bee: Zoom and Land

Age Group: K1 and K2 (3 to 5 years old)

Class Size: 10 children

Duration: 60 minutes

Focus Area: Controlled “bee flight” with soft breath-buzz; precise landing and stillness on a flower; tidy wing shapes away from the face

Learning Objectives

- Children will be able to fly with arms as wings using quiet breath sounds only.

- Children will be able to land and hold still to show arrival at a flower.

- Children will be able to keep wings tidy without flapping near the face.

Materials Needed

- Floor markers: open sky paths and flower landing spots

- Visual aids: simple bee wing shape, flower target, breath-buzz cue (“mmm/zz” with closed lips or teeth)

- Soft instrumental music for movement and freeze cues

- Chime or soft drum for start/stop

- Optional icons for “sky,” “flower,” and “still statue”

Procedures

5 min Warm-up: Body + Breath

Purpose: To settle the group, awaken body awareness, and prepare soft breath-buzz control.

- Gentle stretches: reach tall, open arms to a soft wing curve, roll shoulders, bend knees and float up.

- Belly breathing: hands on belly; inhale through nose, exhale with a very soft “zz” or “mmm-zz” through closed lips/teeth. Keep sound quiet.

- Face and neck safety: tuck chin slightly long, relax jaw; no tight necks.

15 min Technique Focus 1: Controlled Flight with Soft Breath-Buzz

Purpose: To build quiet, smooth winging with stable bodies and soft sound.

- Wing shape: arms slightly out and curved; elbows soft; hands relaxed. Wings stay below cheek level—no flapping near the face.

- Breath-buzz:

  - Option A: “mmm” hum + tiny “zz” release, very soft.

  - Option B: whisper-breath with no voice, lips closed to suggest buzz.

- Flight levels and paths:

  - In place: small wing pulses while walking on tiptoe for 8 slow counts.

  - Short straight path: 4–6 steps, light feet, steady torso.

  - Gentle curves: S-path around two markers; keep speed even.

- Control rules:

  - Quiet feet, quiet shoulders, quiet buzz (teacher shows a “two-finger volume” signal).

  - Eyes look where you travel.

  - Wings never touch the face or other children; arms stay in your own space.

- Stop cue drill:

  - On chime: freeze in a “hover” statue (heels down, arms open, sound off).

  - Practice three times: fly (8 counts) → hover freeze (2 counts).

15 min Technique Focus 2: Precise Land and Stillness on a Flower

Purpose: To show clear arrival with balance, tidy wings, and full stillness.

- Flower target setup: place a large flower marker for each pathway.

- Landing sequence (model with counts):

  1. Approach the flower on soft steps (4 counts).

  2. Hover above it (hold 2).

  3. Lower to land: heels down, knees soft, center tall (2).

  4. Wings fold to tidy position: either behind back or gently at sides (2).

  5. Still statue: eyes on flower, no sound (hold 2–3).

- Balance checks:

  - Feet planted hip-width, no wobble.

  - Face calm; mouth closed; breath quiet.

- Safety and clarity:

  - Only one bee per flower at a time.

  - No extra gestures at the flower.

  - Keep space between bees when approaching and landing.

10 min Guided Application to Exam Task (Bee Micro-Story)

Purpose: To combine controlled flight, hover, precise landing, and stillness.

- Model the micro-story with counts:

  1. Fly a curved path with quiet breath-buzz (1–8).

  2. Hover above the flower (hold 2).

  3. Land softly (2).

  4. Fold wings tidy; still statue (hold 3; no sound).

- Group practice:

  - Run in lanes of 3–4 children; one mover at a time per lane.

  - Use chime to cue “hover,” “land,” and “still.”

- Coaching phrases:

  - “Soft buzz, softer feet.”

  - “Eyes to your flower.”

  - “Fold wings tidy; no face flaps.”

10 min Performance + Feedback

Purpose: To build performance confidence and reinforce technique through observation and feedback.

- Invite children to perform the micro-story one at a time on a marked path.

- Observe:

  - Quiet, steady breath-buzz; controlled wing shape away from face.

  - Clear hover → land → tidy fold → stillness.

  - Balanced statue with no extra movements or sounds.

- Feedback phrases:

  - “I heard a very quiet buzz—well controlled.”

  - “Your landing was soft and clear.”

  - “Great tidy wings and very still statue.”

- Encourage a calm start and finish position for each child.

5 min Calm Close

Purpose: To help children wind down and leave feeling calm and proud.

- “Bee rest”: sit tall; inhale through nose; exhale without sound while arms float down.

- Gentle shoulder hug: cross arms, squeeze shoulders, release; breathe for two quiet cycles.

- Thank children for their focused flying and landings; preview the next lesson.

Extension Ideas

- Landing ladder: practice longer hover holds before landing.

- Path choices: straight, curve, and small figure-eight, all at the same slow speed.

- Stillness game: who can hold the quietest flower statue for 3 counts?
