Learning Objectives

Materials Needed:

- Flashlights (1 for teacher, 5-6 for activities)

- White projection screen or blank wall

- Hole-punched cards:

  • 3 cards per set with different hole patterns

  • 6-8 sets total

- Card holders or stands

- Simple shadow puppets

- Safe mirrors (plastic or secured glass):

  • 6-8 small handheld mirrors

  • 1 larger demonstration mirror

- Colored paper for light path marking

- Safety note: All materials child-safe, mirrors secured


Lesson Procedure

3 mins - Welcome Time

• Lead "Hello Song"

• Dim room lights partially

• Demonstrate flashlight beam

• Show straight light path with beam

 

5 mins - Discovery Chat

• Display single hole-punched card

• Show light beam passing through

• Create light path on floor with colored paper

• Point out light direction

 

7 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Light Path Discovery

• Position three cards in sequence

• Demonstrate light passing through aligned holes

• Show how misalignment blocks light

• Mark successful light paths

• Invite children to predict light paths

• Guide children in card alignment

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Shadow Theatre

Part 1 (6 mins):

• Set up simple puppet screen

• Create clear light path

• Show puppet shadow formation

• Demonstrate light positioning

Part 2 (6 mins):

• Guide puppet handling

• Help position light source

• Support shadow creation
