Learning Objectives

1. Create a lily pad artwork

2. Explore and apply different shapes in creating the art work

3. Observe and identify key components of a lily pad (petals, leaves)


Lesson Preparation

  • Round paper plates or round drawing papers (one per student)

  • Mixed media materials (colored tissue papers, fabric scraps, foil, etc.)

  • Acrylic paints (blue, green, white, pink, yellow)

  • Oil pastels

  • Green paper pre-cut into waterlily pad shapes

  • Scissors (for teacher use or under close supervision)

  • Glue sticks or liquid glue

  • Markers

  • Additional decorative materials (optional): small fish or insect stickers


Lesson Procedure

3 mins - Welcome Time

• Sing the "Hello Song"

• Introduce today's topic: Lily Pad

• Show a puppet/toy to generate excitement

 

5 mins - Discovery Chat

• Display different photos of lily pad

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Creating the Pond Base

  •  Distribute a round paper plate or round drawing paper to each student.

  • Demonstrate how to stick mixed media materials on the paper to create the texture of water in the pond.

  • Allow students to choose their materials and begin creating their pond base.

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Painting Waterlilies

  • Show students how to use acrylic paint to create waterlilies using the pointillism technique.

  • Encourage them to dab small dots of paint to form the shape of waterlilies, experimenting with colour mixing on the palette or directly on the paper.

     

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 3: Adding the Waterlily Pads

- Demonstrate how to use oil pastels to draw vines on the pre-cut waterlily pads.
- Assist students in sticking these pads onto their pond, arranging them artistically around
the painted waterlilies.

 

3 mins - Wrap-Up
