Materials Needed:

- Various types of magnets (bar, circular, magnetic wands)

- Clear plastic containers for water experiments (4)

- Metal items safe for water (paper clips, metal washers)

- Paper for predictions

- Magnetic scavenger hunt items:

  • Metal paper clips

  • Metal spoons

  • Metal bottle caps

  • Small metal toys

- Labels for sorting

- Clear plastic sheets or paper


Lesson Procedure

3 mins - Welcome Time

• Sing "Hello Song"

• Show various magnets: "These are different magnets"

 

5 mins - Discovery Chat

• Demonstrate magnetic force through paper

• Ask: "Can magnets work through paper?"

• Vocabulary: magnetic, non-magnetic, attract

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Magnetic Hunt

• Hide magnetic items around classroom

• Children use magnets to find items

• Ask: "Is it magnetic? Yes or no?"

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Magnetic Water Investigation

• Set up water bins with magnetic items

• Use magnetic wands to:

  - "Fish" items from water

  - Test if magnets work through water

  - Compare wet vs dry magnetic items

• Discussion: "Does water stop magnets?"

 

10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 3: Strong or Weak

• Test magnet strength with paper clips chain

• Count how many clips stick together

• Compare: "This magnet is stronger!"

 

3 mins - Wrap-Up

• Review what we learned
