Age Group: 2-3 years old
Duration: 30 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Remember: Follow story action words.

  • Understand: Connect words to movements.

  • Apply: Move in response to story elements.

MATERIALS:

  1. Story extract (traditional tale: Three Little Pigs, for teachers

  2. Story props (traditional tale: Three Little Pigs)

  3. Music player/speaker (optional soft background music)

## STORY MATERIAL

### Traditional Tale: The Three Little Pigs

Extract for Lesson Use:

> “Once upon a time, three little pigs left home to build their own houses.

> The first little pig built a house of straw.

> The second little pig built a house of sticks.

> The third little pig built a house of bricks.

> One day, the big bad wolf came. He crept to the straw house.

> He said, ‘Little pig, little pig, let me come in!’

> Then he huffed, and he puffed, and he blew the house down.

> The little pig ran to his brother’s house.

> The wolf crept again. He huffed, he puffed, and he blew the stick house down.

> The two pigs ran to the brick house.

> The wolf huffed, he puffed, but he could not blow it down.”

LESSON PROCEDURES:

1. Begin Warm-Up (3 minutes)

- Lead gentle stretches with soft background music.

- Introduce the idea: “Today we will listen to a story and move like the characters.”

- Invite children to copy simple warm-up movements (reach, sway, tap).

2. Present Story Action Words (5 minutes)

- Introduce key action words from the story: build, creep, huff, puff, blow, run.

- Model each action slowly (e.g., pretend building, creeping, blowing).

- Invite children to watch and notice how each action looks.

3. Demonstrate Connecting Words to Movements (6 minutes)

- Read one line of the story extract at a time.

- Pause at each action word and model the movement.

- Invite children to copy the movement linked to the word.

Example:

Teacher says: “The wolf crept to the house.”

Teacher models creeping.

Children follow.

4. Guide Individual Story-Movement Practice (6 minutes)

- Spread children out using floor spots.

- Read short action phrases from the story.

- Invite children to perform specific movements such as:

  - build (slow arm movements)

  - creep (quiet tiptoe steps)

  - huff and puff (big breaths)

  - blow (gentle blowing gesture)

  - run (on the spot)

5. Facilitate Group Story Re‑Telling with Movement (8 minutes)

- Arrange children in pairs, trios, or a small group depending on class size.

- Read the simplified story extract again, one action at a time.

- Invite children to move together as the narrator reads each action.

- Encourage group awareness and shared timing.

6. Lead Cool-Down and Reflection (2 minutes)

- Guide calming breaths with imagery: “Blow gently like the wind… rest like a quiet pig in the brick house.”

- Ask reflection prompts: “Which action did you like moving to?” “How did you know when to move?”

- Invite children to share their favourite story moment.

ASSESSMENT

- Observe whether students follow story action words.

- Check whether students connect words to movements.

- Assess whether students move in response to story elements during group narration.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

- Monitor spacing to prevent collisions during running or creeping actions.

- Support safe breathing actions by modelling gentle “huff and puff” movements.

- Ensure floor spots are secure and reduce slipping hazards.

- Maintain clear pathways for individual and group movement.
