## STORY MATERIAL ### Traditional Tale: The Three Little Pigs Extract for Lesson Use: > “The first little pig walked along the path. His feet went tip tap, tip tap. > The second little pig walked with heavy steps. His feet went stomp, stomp. > The third little pig carried bricks. They went clunk, clunk in his basket. > Then the big bad wolf came through the forest. His steps went creep, creep, creep. > He took a big breath… huff… puff… > And the wind went whoooosh around the house.” |
LESSON PROCEDURES:
1. Begin Warm-Up (3 minutes)
- Lead gentle stretches with soft background ambience.
- Introduce the idea: “Today we will listen to story sounds and move like the characters.”
- Invite children to copy simple warm-up movements (reach, sway, tap).
2. Present Story Sound Words (5 minutes)
- Introduce key sound words: tip tap, stomp, clunk, creep, huff, puff, whoosh.
- Model each sound using your voice while showing the matching movement quality.
- Invite children to watch and notice how each sound changes the movement.
3. Demonstrate Matching Sounds to Story Events (6 minutes)
- Read one line of the story extract at a time.
- Pause at each sound word and model the movement.
- Invite children to copy the movement linked to the sound.
Example:
Teacher says: “His feet went tip tap, tip tap.”
Teacher models light, quick steps.
4. Guide Individual Story- Sound Practice (6 minutes)
- Spread children out using floor spots.
- Read short sound phrases from the story.
- Invite children to perform specific movements such as:
- tip tap (light walking)
- stomp stomp (heavy walking)
- clunk clunk (slow, strong steps)
- creep creep (quiet tiptoe)
- whoosh (big sweeping arm movement)
5. Facilitate Group Story Re‑Telling with Movement (8 minutes)
- Arrange children in pairs, trios, or a whole group depending on class size.
- Read the simplified story extract again, one sound at a time.
- Invite children to move together according to the narrated sound words.
- Encourage group awareness and shared timing.
6. Lead Cool-Down and Reflection (2 minutes)
- Guide calming breaths with imagery: “Blow softly like a gentle breeze… rest like a quiet pig in the brick house.”
- Ask reflection prompts: “Which sound helped you move?” “Which movement felt fun?”
- Invite children to share their favourite sound‑movement moment.
ASSESSMENT
- Observe whether students identify story sound words.
- Check whether students match movements to narrated sounds.
- Assess whether students respond to sound cues during group narration.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
- Monitor spacing to prevent collisions during walking or creeping actions.
- Support safe movement by modelling gentle stomping and controlled steps.
- Ensure floor spots are secure and reduce slipping hazards.
- Maintain clear pathways for individual and group movement.
