Unit 1: Meet the Bear – Main Characters Introduction

LESSON 1: Big Bear Moves
Age Group: 2-3 years old
Duration: 30 minutes
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Drama: Students will demonstrate basic bear movements 
Music: Students will produce simple bear sounds in response to musical cues 
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Percussion instrument (brass pipe and wooden block)
Bear pictures/puppet
Carpet spots/markers for children's positions
Pictures of bears (2-3 large photos)



LESSON PROCEDURES:
1. Warm-up Movement (3 minutes)
• Place floor spot markers in open space
• Stand at front demonstration spot
• Demonstrate bear stretches: tall reach, toe touch, paw waves
• Invite children to follow movements


2. Welcome Circle (5 minutes)
• Arrange floor markers in circle formation
• Display and demonstrate brass pipe ('ding') sound
• Display and demonstrate wooden block ('dong') sound
• Model sitting signals with paw movements
• Model facial expressions for each sound
• Demonstrate standing/sitting responses


3. Bear Walking Practice (8 minutes)
• Demonstrate Sleepy Bear walk:
    - Model heavy steps
    - Show yawning motion
    - Display stretching arms
• Present Hungry Bear movements:
    - Model sniffing action
    - Demonstrate side glances
    - Show quiet tiptoeing
• Demonstrate Happy Bear actions:
    - Model bouncy steps
    - Show side-to-side swaying
    - Display gentle arm swings
• Present Curious Bear movements:
    - Model stop-and-look motion
    - Demonstrate careful small steps
    - Show peering actions
• Demonstrate Playful Bear actions:
    - Model light jumping
    - Show shoulder rolling
    - Display playful paw waves


4. Bear Gestures (8 minutes)
• Model Morning Bear routine:
    - Demonstrate tall stretches
    - Show yawning motions
    - Present back scratching
• Demonstrate Eating Bear sequence:
    - Show food picking motion
    - Present eating movements
    - Model tummy patting
• Present Grooming Bear actions:
    - Model paw licking
    - Demonstrate face washing
    - Show fur smoothing movements
• Demonstrate Swimming Bear sequence:
    - Model paddling arm motions
    - Show splashing movements
    - Present water shaking action


5. "I'm a Bear" Play (4 minutes)
• Stand in presentation position
• Model "I'm a big bear" movement
• Present sleeping bear motion
• Demonstrate hungry bear action
• Show happy bear movement


6. Cool Down (2 minutes)
• Return to circle formation
• Model quiet breathing
• Demonstrate gentle knee patting
• Signal activity end



SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:
Ensure adequate space between children
Keep movements gentle and controlled
Watch for tired children
