Unit 1: Meet the Bear – Main Characters Introduction

LESSON 3: Finding Coconuts
Age Group: 2-3 years old
Duration: 30 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Drama: Students will demonstrate coconut gathering movements
Music: Students will respond to musical cues with gathering actions

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Percussion instrument (brass pipe and wooden block)
Bear pictures/puppet
Carpet spots/markers for children's positions
Pictures of bears with coconuts (2-3 large photos)



LESSON PROCEDURES:
Warm-up Movement (3 minutes)
• Place floor spot markers in open space
• Stand at front demonstration spot
• Demonstrate reaching stretches: up high, middle, low
• Invite children to follow movements


Welcome Circle (5 minutes)
• Arrange floor markers in circle formation
• Display and demonstrate brass pipe ('reach up') sound
• Display and demonstrate wooden block ('rest down') sound
• Model reaching signals with paw movements
• Model excited expressions for finding coconuts
• Demonstrate gathering and resting positions
Coconut Finding Practice (8 minutes)
• Demonstrate Looking Up movements:
- Model neck stretching
- Show upward gazing
- Display excited pointing
• Present Reaching movements:
- Model tall stretching
- Demonstrate arm extending
- Show balanced standing
• Demonstrate Picking actions:
- Model careful reaching
- Show gentle pulling
Display bringing down motion
• Present Gathering movements:
- Model bending down
- Demonstrate collecting actions
- Show carrying positions
• Demonstrate Sorting actions: 
- Model examining motions
- Show stacking movements
Display arranging gestures


Coconut Gestures (8 minutes)
• Model Opening routine:
- Demonstrate holding positions
- Show tapping motions
- Present cracking movements
• Demonstrate Scooping sequence:
- Show scooping actions
- Present gathering movements
- Model collecting gestures
• Present Drinking actions:
- Model lifting motions
- Demonstrate sipping actions
- Show enjoyment expressions
• Demonstrate Sharing sequence:
- Model offering movements
- Show passing actions
- Present happy celebrations


"Coconut Bear" Play (4 minutes)
• Stand in presentation position
• Model "Finding coconuts" movement
• Present gathering motions
• Demonstrate drinking actions
• Show sharing movements


Cool Down (2 minutes)
• Return to circle formation
• Model satisfied breathing
• Demonstrate gentle patting
• Signal activity end



SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:
