Unit 5: Character Roles & Parade Prep

LESSON 4: Character Sequence & Group Flow
Age Group: 2-3 years old
Duration: 30 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Drama: Students will be able to demonstrate their character roles while entering in sequence. 
  2. Music: Students will be able to sing the fruit juice song together with group cues. 
  3. Physical: Students will be able to hold fruit props and move in sequence with confidence.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  1. Animal puppets or images (Alligator, Wolf, Ostrich, Monkey, Lion, Panda, Kangaroo, Lizard, Pig, Gorilla)
  2. Fruit props (apples, watermelons, oranges, mangoes, lemons, pineapples, kiwis, limes, pears, grapes, coconut for bear)
  3. Role cards or badges 
  4. Carpet spots or floor markers
  5. Percussion instrument (chime or drum)
  6. Lesson PowerPoint:

LESSON PROCEDURES:
1. Warm-up (3 minutes

• Invite children to form a circle.
• Sing “Making Juice Song” with coordinated gestures.
• Guide fruit preparation actions with rhythm.
 

2. Introduce Sequence Concept (5 minutes)

• Present bear with coconut as starting point.
• Invite children to listen to story background: bear invites animal friends to make rainbow juice.
• Guide explanation of order of appearance:
Alligator & Wolf with apples & watermelons
Ostrich & Monkey with oranges & mangoes
Lion & Panda with lemons & pineapples
Kangaroo, Lizard & Pig with kiwis, limes & pears
Gorilla with grapes
 

3.   Group Entrance Practice (12 minutes)
• Ring chime to cue first group (Alligator & Wolf).
• Invite group to walk to assigned point holding fruit props and place the fruit props in the assigned bowl.
• Ring chime to cue the group to sing fruit juice song with bear.
• Invite group to freeze pose at end of song.
• Ring chime to cue next group (Ostrich & Monkey).
• Invite group to walk in, place the fruit props and sing with all animals, freeze pose.
• Continue sequence with Lion & Panda, then Kangaroo, Lizard & Pig, then Gorillas.
• Reinforce smooth transitions and group confidence.

Remark:

  • Alligator: invite children to open and close arms like a big mouth.

  • Wolf: invite children to cup hands around mouth and howl softly.

  • Ostrich: invite children to stretch neck tall and flap arms gently.

  • Monkey: invite children to swing arms playfully and scratch head.

  • Lion: invite children to spread arms wide and roar gently.

  • Panda: invite children to hug themselves and roll shoulders slowly.

  • Kangaroo: invite children to bounce gently with hands on tummy (pouch).

  • Lizard: invite children to climb vertically with alternating hand‑foot gestures.

  • Pig: invite children to snort happily and rub their nose.

  • Gorilla: invite children to tap chest softly and swing arms.


4. Full Sequence Run-through (8 minutes)

• Invite all groups to practice complete order of appearance with chime cues.
• Guide singing of fruit juice song after each group enters.
• Invite all animals to freeze together at the end of the final song.
• Reinforce excitement and confidence with applause and smiles.

5. Cool Down (4 minutes)

• Invite children to return to circle.
• Lead soft breathing and gentle stretching.
• Guide closing chant: “Rainbow juice is ready, thank you families.”
• Signal end with quiet humming of the Rainbow Juice melody.

 


ASSESSMENT:

1. Observe clarity of group entrances and order of appearance.
2. Assess coordination of fruit props and sequence actions.
3. Evaluate singing of fruit juice song with group cues.
4. Monitor freeze poses and confidence in transitions.
