Unit 6: Stage Spaces & Positions  

LESSON 1: Where Do I Go? Stage Map  
Age Group: 2-3 years old
Duration: 30 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Drama: Students will be able to demonstrate awareness of stage zones through animal role actions.
  2. Physical: Students will be able to demonstrate group positioning and stillness with confidence.
  3. Performance Readiness: Students will be able to recognise visual cues and maintain awareness of stage space.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  1. Floor markers or taped spots (entrance, center, exit)
  2. Fruit props (apples, watermelons, oranges, mangoes, lemons, pineapples, kiwis, limes, pears, grapes, coconut for bear)
  3. Animal role cards or badges
  4. Percussion instrument (chime or drum)
  5. Lesson PowerPoint:

REMARK: If possible, carry out this lesson on the actual stage or performance space to help children become familiar with entrances, center positions, and exits in the real environment.


LESSON PROCEDURES:
1. Warm-up (3 minutes

• Invite children to form a circle.
• Sing “Making Juice Song” with coordinated gestures.
• Guide fruit preparation actions with rhythm.
 

2. Introduce Stage Zones (5 minutes)

• Present stage map with clear zones: entrance, center, exit.
• Invite children to look at markers placed on the floor.
• Guide explanation: “This is where you enter, this is where you stand, this is where you exit.”
• Reinforce with simple pointing and walking demonstrations.
 

3.   Walk to Assigned Spots (7 minutes)

• Invite children to hold fruit props.
• Guide each group to walk from entrance to center using floor markers.
• Invite children to stand in their assigned spots.
• Guide gentle holding of fruit props while standing.
• Reinforce awareness of spacing and balance.


4. Practice Stillness and Awareness with Animal Actions (10 minutes)

• Invite children to remain in their spots with fruit props.
• Guide stillness practice: “Stand tall, hold your fruit, look forward and smile.”
• Ring chime to cue awareness shifts (entrance → center → exit).
• Invite children to perform their animal’s unique action while standing in position. Refer to the remarks below.
• Invite children to freeze after their action to practice stage stillness.
• Guide repetition of entrance, center, exit sequence with animal actions for confidence.

Remark:

  • Alligator: open and close arms like a big mouth.

  • Wolf: cup hands around mouth and howl softly.

  • Ostrich: stretch neck tall and flap arms gently.

  • Monkey: swing arms playfully and scratch head.

  • Lion: spread arms wide and roar gently.

  • Panda: hug themselves and roll shoulders slowly.

  • Kangaroo: bounce gently with hands on tummy (pouch).

  • Lizard: climb vertically with alternating hand‑foot gestures.

  • Pig: snort happily and rub nose.

  • Gorilla: tap chest softly and swing arms.

5. Cool Down (4 minutes)

• Invite children to return to circle.
• Lead soft breathing and gentle stretching.
• Guide fruit prop collection and closing chant.
• Signal end with quiet humming of the Rainbow Juice melody.

 


ASSESSMENT:

1. Observe clarity of movement between entrance, center, and exit.
2. Assess ability to hold fruit props while moving in sequence.
3. Evaluate animal role actions performed in stage positions.
4. Monitor stillness and confidence in stage awareness.
