Unit 6: Stage Spaces & Positions  

LESSON 2: Enter, Perform, Exit
Age Group: 2-3 years old
Duration: 30 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Drama: Students will be able to demonstrate awareness of their assigned stage spot through movement and stillness.
  2. Music: Students will be able to sing together while standing in spread-out stage positions.
  3. Performance Readiness: Students will be able to respond to chime cues and practice stage awareness.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  1. Floor markers or taped spots (entrance, center, exit, assigned stage positions)
  2. Fruit props (apples, watermelons, oranges, mangoes, lemons, pineapples, kiwis, limes, pears, grapes, coconut for bear)
  3. Animal role cards or badges
  4. Percussion instrument (chime or drum)
  5. Lesson PowerPoint:

REMARK: If possible, carry out this lesson on the actual stage or performance space to help children become familiar with entrances, center positions, and exits in the real environment.


LESSON PROCEDURES:
1. Warm-up (3 minutes

• Invite children to form a circle.
• Sing “Making Juice Song” with coordinated gestures.
• Guide fruit preparation actions with rhythm.
 

2. Introduce Stage Zones (5 minutes)

• Present floor markers for each child’s stage position according to their roles in their animal families. E.g. Daddy Alligator and Brother Alligator stand on the left, Mummy Alligator and Sister Alligator stand on the right.
• Invite children to look at their assigned spot.
• Guide explanation: “This is your special place on stage.”
• Reinforce with simple pointing and walking demonstrations.
 

3.   Move to Assigned Spots (7 minutes)

• Invite children to hold fruit props.
• Guide walking from entrance to their assigned spot.
• Invite children to stand tall and hold fruit props gently.
• Invite children to introduce their family and their roles
• Reinforce awareness of spacing and balance.


4. Practice Chime Cue & Singing (10 minutes)

• Ring chime to cue movement to assigned spots.
• Guide standing still and holding fruit props.
• Invite children to place the fruit props in the assigned bowl.
• Invite children to introduce their family and role.
• Invite children to spread out across the stage.
• Invite children to sing the Rainbow Juice song together while in position.
• Guide freeze pose at the end of the song.
• Invite children to exit the stage.

Remark:

  • Alligator: open and close arms like a big mouth.

  • Wolf: cup hands around mouth and howl softly.

  • Ostrich: stretch neck tall and flap arms gently.

  • Monkey: swing arms playfully and scratch head.

  • Lion: spread arms wide and roar gently.

  • Panda: hug themselves and roll shoulders slowly.

  • Kangaroo: bounce gently with hands on tummy (pouch).

  • Lizard: climb vertically with alternating hand‑foot gestures.

  • Pig: snort happily and rub nose.

  • Gorilla: tap chest softly and swing arms.

5. Cool Down (4 minutes)

• Invite children to return to circle.
• Lead soft breathing and gentle stretching.
• Guide fruit prop collection and closing chant.
• Signal end with quiet humming of the Rainbow Juice melody.

 


ASSESSMENT:

1. Observe clarity of movement to assigned spots.
2. Assess ability to hold fruit props while moving in sequence.
3. Evaluate singing in spread-out stage positions.
4. Monitor stillness and awareness during chime cues.
