Unit 7: Route and Transitions

LESSON 3: Forest Discovery
Age Group: 2-3 years old
Duration: 30 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Drama: Students will be able to demonstrate expressive actions.  

  2. Music: Students will be able to move with music cues to reach assigned spots and coordinate simple actions with rhythm. 

  3. Performance Readiness: Students will be able to listen to the narrator, follow visual trails, face the audience, and maintain stage awareness during scene transitions.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  1. Floor arrows or visual trails (colour‑coded for the Bear family)  
  2. Assigned spot markers (forest spots, discovery spots)
  3. Narrator script 
  4. Percussion instrument (chime or drum)

REMARK: If possible, carry out this lesson on the actual stage or performance space to help children become familiar with entrances, center positions, and exits in the real environment.


LESSON PROCEDURES:
1. Warm-up (3 minutes)

• Invite children to form a circle.
• Sing “Sharing Song” with gentle walking‑in‑place movements.
• Guide simple “forest walking” gestures to warm up bodies and imagination.  
 

2. Introduce Scene 1 Skills (4 minutes)

• Present the key actions from the Forest Discovery scene:  "walking → self‑introduction → picking up → having an idea → nodding"  
• Invite children to watch a teacher demonstration of each action, facing the audience.  
• Guide attention to how performers keep their faces visible and movements clear.  

3.   Listen to the Narrator (3 minutes)

• Invite children to stand at the entrance zone.  
• Guide attention to the narrator’s voice :  “The forest is quiet. Walk, walk, walk into the forest.”  
• Ring chime to reinforce listening and readiness.  



4. Practice the Rainbow Route (12 minutes) 

• Invite children to follow floor arrows into the “forest” area.  
• Guide slow, steady walking in rhythm with soft background music.  
• Invite children to arrive at their assigned forest spots and face the audience.
 

5. Coordinate Self‑Introduction Practice (5 minutes)

• Invite children to practice turning their bodies toward the audience.  
• Guide simple self‑introduction lines such as:  “Hello! I am ______.”
• Invite children to use a gentle wave or hand‑to‑chest gesture.  
• Reinforce clear voice, open posture, and friendly expression.
 

6. Practice Discovery Actions (8 minutes)

Picking Up Action  

• Invite children to look down as if noticing something on the ground.  
• Guide a slow, clear “pick up” movement that the audience can see.  
• Invite children to hold the imaginary object up toward the audience.

 Having an Idea 

• Invite children to place a finger near the temple or lift a hand with excitement.  
• Guide a bright facial expression to show “I have an idea!”
 

Nodding Action

• Invite children to nod gently and repeatedly to show agreement or excitement.  
• Guide children to keep their faces toward the audience while nodding.
 

7. Mini Scene Run‑Through (5 minutes)

• Invite children to listen to the narrator again.  
• Guide the sequence:  walk → introduce → discover → pick up → idea → nod → freeze
• Invite children to hold a final still pose before exiting.  
• Guide a calm exit along visual trails.  
 

8. Cool Down (2 minutes)

• Invite children to return to circle.  
• Lead soft breathing and gentle stretching.  
 


ASSESSMENT:

- Observe ability to listen to narrator cues.  
- Assess clarity of self‑introductions and expressive actions.  
- Evaluate walking paths and arrival at assigned spots.  
- Monitor audience‑facing posture and freeze poses.
