Age: 2 years old
Class Size: 15 children
No. of Lesson: 4 classes in the whole course
Lesson Duration: 1 hour
Preparation

2. Set up a train-themed craft station with materials for creating paper trains, including colored paper, glue, and safety scissors.
3. Prepare the story "Let's Take the Train" for reading and interactive activities.
Part 1: Story Introduction and Vocabulary
Target Vocabulary:
- traffic light
- train
- rail
- ticket
- station
Target Instruction:
1. "The light is green/red.”
2. "Let’s go together!"
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Identify and understand the use of the target vocabulary in the context of a train journey.
2. Respond to basic questions and instructions involving the vocabulary.
3. Demonstrate comprehension of the story "Let's Take the Train."
Materials List:
- Storybook "Let's Take the Train"
- Train-themed flashcards
- Train set or toy trains for demonstration
### Class Details:
1. Warm-Up (5 mins): Begin with a song about trains to introduce the theme and excite
the children about the upcoming story.
2. Vocabulary Introduction (5 mins): Introduce the target vocabulary with the use of toy trains and flashcards. Show each item and repeat the word clearly, encouraging the children to say the words after you.
3. Interactive Storytelling (10 mins): Read "Let's Take the Train," stopping at key points to point out the traffic light, train, rail, ticket, and station in the illustrations. Ask the children the target questions and encourage them to respond.
4. Interactive Activity (15 mins): Play the train driver game. Invite one child to act as the train driver and walk around the area. Have the 'train' (driver) stop at a 'station', tap another child on the shoulder, and using the sentence "Let's go together!" invite the new passenger to join the conga-style train. Assign one child to be the traffic light and hold up a red or green signal. Encourage the other children to alert the driver by saying, "The light is green/red." When the light is green, the train can move, and when the light is red, the train should stop. The passengers then follow the driver, mimicking their actions as they move around the space.
Assessment:
Remarks:
- Keep the energy high and use lots of gestures and facial expressions to maintain the children's engagement.
- Be patient and offer help with the activity, ensuring that each child feels supported.
- Use the target sentence structure conversationally throughout the lesson to reinforce learning.
Part 2: Art and Craft Activity
Making a Train Landscape
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this activity, students should be able to:
1. Use art materials to construct a simple train landscape.
2. Develop fine motor skills by cutting, gluing, and assembling art materials.
Materials List:
- Colourful paper for the background (blue for the sky, green/brown for the earth)
- Ropes or yarn to represent the rails
- Coloured rectangles of paper or cardstock for the train's body
- Colourful cardboard pieces for windows
- Black paper circles for wheels
- Drinking straws for chimneys
- Cokon balls or cokon wool for smoke
- Glue, tape, and scissors (for teacher use or with close supervision)
Class Details:
1. Introduction (5 mins): Present a sample train landscape and discuss the different parts of the train and its environment. Explain the materials they will use and how each part contributes to the final picture.
2. Constructing the Train Landscape (20 mins): Guide the students through the process of creating their train landscapes step by step. Start with the background, followed by laying down the rails, and then constructing the train. Encourage the children to use the target vocabulary as they identify each element of their craft.
3. Personalizing the Artwork (10 mins): Encourage the children to personalize their trains and landscapes. They can choose the colors of their trains, add passengers visible through the windows, or decorate the background to represent different stations.
4. Clean-Up (5 mins): Help the children to tidy up their work area, ensuring that all materials are put away properly and that any waste is disposed of. Assist them with washing their hands if necessary after using glue or if they have gotten particularly messy.
Assessment:
- Observe if the children are able to use the target vocabulary.
- Assess their ability to follow the target instructions during activities.
- Observe their ability to follow directions.
- Gauge their engagement and participation during the interactive storytelling session and
whether they respond appropriately to the target questions.
- Evaluate their engagement in the art activity and whether they were able to stick with glue.
- Note their willingness to mimic actions and join the conga-style train, which indicates their
understanding of the collaborative nature of the activity.
Notes for Teachers:
- Encourage the children to participate by making them fun and interactive.
- Be patient and provide assistance with counting and art activities as needed.
- Praise efforts and provide positive feedback.
