Materials Needed:

- Clear jars with lids

- Shaving cream

- Blue food coloring

- Droppers

- Small paper umbrellas (1 per child)

- Decorating supplies:

  • Stickers

  • Markers

  • Sequins

  • Glue

- Paper plates (1 per child)

- Water cycle craft materials:

  • Cotton balls

  • Blue tissue paper

  • Yellow construction paper

  • Glue

  • Markers

- Picture cards showing:

  • Rain formation

  • Water cycle

  • Different types of rain

- Waterproof aprons

 


Lesson Procedure

3 mins - Welcome Time

• Sing "Hello Song"

• Show rain pictures

• Introduce weather vocabulary

 

7 mins - Discovery Chat

• Discuss rain formation

• Look at cloud types

• Talk about water cycle

• Introduce vocabulary: evaporation, condensation, precipitation

• Make rain sounds together

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Rain in a Jar

• Part 1 (6 mins):

  - Demonstrate jar setup

  - Add shaving cream "clouds"

  - Explain process

  - Use phrases: "Watch the rain form!"

• Part 2 (6 mins):

  - Children add colored water

  - Observe "rain" falling

  - Record observations

  - Use phrases: "The cloud is full!" "Rain is coming!"

 

13 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Umbrella Art

  - Show sample decorated umbrella
