Lesson Procedure

3 mins - Welcome Time

• Sing the "Hello Song"

• Introduce today's topic: "Today we're going on a Sensory Adventure!"

10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Rainbow Colors (Sight)

• Show children a large rainbow picture

• Introduce or review basic color names: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple

• Give each child a set of colored objects (e.g., blocks, pompoms)

• Ask children to sort the objects by color, matching them to the rainbow

• Play a quick game: "I spy with my little eye something [color]"

8 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Smell and Tell (Smell)

• Prepare small containers with different scents (e.g., vanilla, lemon, mint, cinnamon)

• Blindfold children or ask them to close their eyes

• Let each child smell a container and guess what it is

• Discuss: "Do all these smells make you feel the same? Which one do you like best?"

8 mins - Hands-On Challenge 3: Sound Safari (Hearing)

• Play recordings or use instruments to make different sounds (e.g., bird chirping, drum beating, bell ringing)

• Ask children to identify each sound

• Discuss whether sounds are high or low pitch

• Play a game where children act out being the source of different sounds (e.g., pretend to be a bird or play an air guitar)

8 mins - Hands-On Challenge 4: Mystery Bag (Touch)

• Prepare bags with various objects of different textures (e.g., soft toy, rough stone, smooth ball)

• Children take turns feeling inside the bag without looking

• Ask them to describe what they feel (e.g., "It's soft", "It's bumpy")

• See if they can guess what the object is based on touch alone

6 mins - Hands-On Challenge 5: Tongue Map (Taste)

• Show a simple diagram of a tongue with different taste areas highlighted

• Explain that different parts of our tongue can taste different flavors

• Prepare small samples of foods representing different tastes:

- Sweet (e.g., a small piece of fruit)

- Salty (e.g., a pretzel bit)

- Sour (e.g., a small lemon slice)

- Bitter (e.g., a tiny bit of unsweetened cocoa)

• Let children taste each sample and describe what they taste

• Discuss which tastes they like best

2 mins - Wrap-Up

• Recap: "Today we explored our five senses: seeing with our eyes, smelling with our nose, hearing with our ears, touching with our hands, and tasting with our tongue!"

• Sing the "Goodbye Song"
