3. Explore material properties

Materials Needed:

- Flashlights (1 for teacher, 5-6 for activities)

- White projection screen or blank wall

- Collection of materials:

  • Transparent: clear plastic, cellophane

  • Translucent: wax paper, tissue paper

  • Opaque: cardboard, fabric

• Display different materials

• Show light interaction with each

• Create various shadow effects

• Point out shadow differences

7 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Material Discovery

• Hold up clear plastic

• Shine light through

• Show complete light passage

• Repeat with translucent material

• Demonstrate with opaque material

• Invite children to observe differences

• Guide material exploration

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Shadow Strength
