Lesson Procedure
3 mins - Welcome Time
• Sing the "Hello Song"
• Introduce today's topic: "Today we're going to be Shape Explorers!"
5 mins - Discovery Chat
• Show large cut-outs of basic shapes: circle, square, triangle
• Ask children to name the shapes they recognise
• Briefly discuss where we might see these shapes in our world (e.g., "A clock is a circle", "A sandwich can be a triangle")
10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Shape Hunt
• Give each child a 'Shape Explorer' badge (a simple sticker will do)
• Ask children to walk around the classroom and find objects that match the shapes we learned
• When they find an object, they should call out "I found a [shape]!" and point to it
10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Shape Sorting
• Provide a variety of small objects or pictures of different shapes
• Have large outlines of circle, square, and triangle on the floor
• Children take turns picking an object and placing it in the correct shape outline
• Encourage them to say, "This [object] is a [shape]" as they place each item
10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 3: Shape Creation
• Provide KNEX or play dough to each child
• Demonstrate how to make basic shapes with the dough
• Encourage children to create their own shapes and talk about what they've made
• Optional: Create a 'shape picture' together
2 mins - Wrap-Up
• Recap: "Today we learned about circles, squares, and triangles. We found shapes all around us!"
• Sing the "Goodbye Song"
