Lesson Procedure
3 mins - Welcome Time
• Sing the "Hello Song"
• Introduce today's topic: "Today we're going to be Size Explorers!"
5 mins - Discovery Chat
• Show three teddy bears of different sizes (small, medium, large)
• Introduce the words "big", "medium", and "small"
• Ask children to repeat: "The [colour] bear is [size]"
• Briefly discuss where we might see different sizes in our world (e.g., "A house is big, a toy car is small")
10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Size Sorting
• Provide a variety of objects in different sizes (e.g., balls, blocks, toy animals)
• Have three hoops on the floor labelled "Big", "Medium", and "Small"
• Children take turns picking an object and placing it in the correct hoop
• Encourage them to say, "This [object] is [size]" as they place each item
10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Goldilocks and the Three Bears with Actions
• Tell a simplified version of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", emphasising size differences
• Use props (e.g., different-sized bowls, chairs, and beds) as you tell the story
• Involve children by asking them to point to the "big", "medium", or "small" item in each set
• Add actions to the story: "Papa Bear" or "big" - stretch up tall with arms reaching high, "Mama Bear" or "medium" - stand normally, "Baby Bear" or "small" - crouch down low
• After the story, let children play with the props, arranging them by size
10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 3: Size Order Line-Up
• Prepare sets of 3-5 similar objects in different sizes (e.g., different-sized leaves, paper circles, toy cars)
• Divide children into small groups
• Give each group a set of objects
• Ask them to line up their objects from smallest to biggest
• Encourage discussion: "Which one comes next? Is this one bigger or smaller?"
• Once finished, have groups present their size order to the class
• For an extra challenge, mix up two groups' objects and have them work together to create a longer size order line
2 mins - Wrap-Up
• Recap: "Today we learned about big, medium, and small. We can find different sizes all around us!"
• Sing the "Goodbye Song"
