  1. Children will be able to identify and explain the function of Tale-bot's command buttons.
  2. Children will be able to provide multi-step instructions to Tale-bot.
  3. Children will be able to understand basic coding concepts through Tale-bot's operations.

     

Lesson Procedure

3 mins - Welcome Time
• Sing the "Hello Song"
• Introduce today's topic: "Today we're going to meet a special robot friend called Tale-bot!"

 

7 mins - Discovery Chat: GREAT Rules
Introduce classroom rules for using Tale-bot using the acronym GREAT:
• Gentle Hands: "We touch Tale-bot gently."
• Ready to Share: "We take turns with Tale-bot."
• Everyone Listens: "We listen to instructions carefully."
• Ask for Help: "If you're not sure, ask a teacher."
• Time for Fun: "Let's enjoy learning with Tale-bot!"

 

12 mins - Activity 1: Warm-up: Be a Robot
• Explain 'forward' and 'backward' movements
• Children take turns being robot leaders:
  - One leader decides 'forward' or 'backward'
  - Another leader rolls the dice for the number of steps
  - Other students are robots and act
• Practice: "Let's try! Step 1: Forward or Backward? Step 2: How many steps? Step 3: Act now!"
• Extend the activity by adding more complex instructions like "turn left" or "turn right"

 

12 mins - Activity 2: Get to Know Tale-bot!
• Introduce Tale-bot: "I have two big eyes and some buttons on the top of my head. I have two red wheels, two blue arms, and two yellow wings."
• Demonstrate Tale-bot's functions:
  - Green button + Orange button = Go forward
  - Dance button + Orange button = Dance
  - Mic button + Orange button = Talk
• Let children take turns pressing button combinations and observing Tale-bot's actions
• Encourage children to describe what Tale-bot does after each command

 

9 mins - Activity 3: Forward, Forward
• Set up: Use paper cups to build a tower
• Challenge: Program Tale-bot to reach the cup tower and knock down as many cups as possible
• Encourage children to experiment with different commands and use of arms/wings
• Discuss: "Would the arms and wings be helpful? How about using Lego blocks instead of cups?"
• Allow children to try different strategies and compare results

 

2 mins - Wrap-Up
• Recap: "Today we met Tale-bot! We learned how to give it commands and make it move!"
• Sing the "Goodbye Song"
