Learning Objectives

  1. Children will be able to identify the heart and its location in the human body.

  2. Children will be able to describe the basic function of the heart in simple English.

  3. Children will be able to create and use a simple stethoscope to listen to heartbeats.


Lesson Procedure

3 mins - Welcome Time

• Sing the "Hello Song"

• Introduce today's topic: "Today we're going to learn about our amazing heart!"

• Show a large picture of the human body with a visible heart

 

5 mins - Discovery Chat

• Ask: "What do you know about our heart?"

• Briefly introduce the heart: its location and basic function

• Discuss: "What does our heart do for us?"

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Listening to Our Heart

• Introduce a real stethoscope and demonstrate how to use it

• Divide children into pairs

• Have children take turns listening to each other's heartbeat

• Ask children to dance or jump for 1 minute

• Have them listen to their partner's heartbeat again

• Discuss the change in heartbeat: "Is it faster or slower? Why?"

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Make Your Own Stethoscope

• Prepare materials for each child: 1 balloon, cardboard tube (toilet paper roll), duct tape, scissors

• Guide children in creating a simple stethoscope:

  - Decorate the cardboard tube if desired

  - Cut the long section of the balloon

  - Wrap the cut balloon tightly around one end of the tube

  - Secure it well with duct tape

• Demonstrate how to use the DIY stethoscope

 

10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 3: Pumping Heart Model and Practice

• Set up a pumping heart model (prepared by the teacher beforehand)

• While children wait for their turn to try the pumping heart model:

  - Have them use their DIY stethoscopes to listen to each other's heartbeats

  - Encourage them to compare the sound with the real stethoscope

• One by one, have children try out the pumping heart model

• Discuss how the model is similar to how our real heart pumps blood

 

3 mins - Wrap-Up

• Recap: "Today we learned about our amazing heart!"

• Review key points: "The heart pumps blood. It beats faster when we exercise."

• Sing the "Goodbye Song"
