Learning Objectives:

- Observe how wind moves different objects

- Demonstrate wind power through simple activities

- Match wind strength to object movement


Materials Needed:

- Cotton balls (5 per child)

- Pre-made paper frogs (1 per child)

- Pre-cut windmill materials:

  • Colored paper pinwheels

  • Plastic straws

  • Push pins (teacher use only)

- Small handheld fans (1 per 2 children)

- Picture cards showing wind effects

- Start and finish lines (tape on floor)

- Collection of light objects for demonstration:

  • Feathers

  • Paper strips

  • Ribbons

  • Tissue paper

- Paper for making fans (1 per child)

- Small pieces of lightweight cloth

- Clean plastic combs

 


Lesson Procedure

 

3 mins - Welcome Time

• Sing "Hello Song"

• Show wind effects with ribbons: "Look at the wind!"

• Basic safety rules about blowing

 

5 mins - Discovery Chat

• Show pictures of wind in nature

• Demonstrate wind with fan and light objects

• Introduce vocabulary: wind, blow, fast, slow

• Practice blowing gently and strongly

 

10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 1: Cotton Ball Races

• Part 1 (5 mins):

  - Demonstrate blowing cotton balls

  - Practice controlling breath

  - Use phrases: "Blow soft!" "Blow hard!"

• Part 2 (5 mins):

  - Set up simple race tracks

  - Children blow cotton balls to finish line

  - Celebrate successful movements

  - Use phrases: "Go cotton!" "Almost there!"

10 mins - Hands-On Challenge 2: Frog Races

• Part 1 (5 mins):

  - Demonstrate different wind-making tools:

    * Wave paper fans (folded paper)

    * Wave cloth pieces

    * Show how to use combs as fans

  - Test each tool on paper frogs

  - Compare different wind strengths

  - Use phrases: "Fan slowly!" "Watch frog hop!"

  - Let children try each tool

  - Discuss which tool works best

 

• Part 2 (5 mins):

  - Switch to using breath

  - Practice controlled blowing a straw

  - Race frogs in groups

  - Take turns blowing

  - Count hops together

  - Use phrases: "Gentle blow!" "Hop frog!"

  - Compare blowing vs. fanning

  - Celebrate successful hops

 

12 mins - Hands-On Challenge 3: Windmill Fun

• Part 1 (6 mins):

  - Show completed windmill

  - Distribute pre-made pinwheels

  - Teachers attach to straws

  - Practice safe handling

• Part 2 (6 mins):

  - Test windmills with breath

  - Use small fans

  - Observe movement

  - Use phrases: "Round and round!" "Spin fast!"

 

5 mins - Wrap-Up

• Review wind activities

• Practice gentle blowing one last time

• Sing "Goodbye Song"
