Lesson 1 Colourful Creatures
## Course Aim:
Tiny Tales is a story-based course specifically designed for toddlers to acquaint them with English. The course focuses on introducing simple vocabulary and instrucJons to the children, helping them to develop essenJal language skills while fostering their curiosity and love for stories.
**Age:** 2 years old
**Class Size:** 15 children
**Classes:** 3 classes in the whole course
**Class DuraJon:** 1 hour
## PreparaJon:
1. Prepare the craR materials for the Art acJvity. This includes pre-cut rectangular coloured paper (brown, red, blue, yellow), pre-drawn and pre-cut snouts, ears, beaks and other materials on the Material List.
2. Set up 4 tables with different coloured papers corresponding to the colours in the story. Place the craR materials in the centre of each table.
3. Create a sample of the art acJvity and place it in a visible locaJon for reference during the acJvity.
## Part 1: Story Time
### Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? by Eric Carle
**Target Vocabulary:**
1. Brown
2. Red
3. Yellow
4. Blue
**Target InstrucJons:**
1. "Look at the..."
2. "Point to the..."
**Learning ObjecJves:**
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Recognize and respond to the target vocabulary.
2. Follow the target instrucJons in English.
3. IdenJfy the main characters in the story.
**Materials List:**
1. "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?" by Eric Carle
2. Projector (for YouTube song)
3. Colour flashcards (red, blue, yellow, green)
4. Plush toys or pictures of the animals in the story

### Class Details:
1. **Warm-Up (10 mins)**: Start the lesson with a cheerful greeJng. Review the colours using colour flashcards and encourage students to repeat aRer you. Use the target instrucJon "Look at the..." while showing the flashcards.
2. **Story IntroducJon (10 mins)**: Show the children the cover of the book and introduce it as today's story. Introduce the target instrucJons by demonstraJng them with flashcards or plush toys. For example, say "Look at the brown card" and then "Point to the yellow card."
3. **Story Time (10 mins)**: Read the story aloud, using a lot of gestures and facial expressions to make the story engaging. Pause aRer each page to point to the animals and colours and encourage the students to do the same. Use the target instrucJons to engage students, for example, "Look at the blue horse," or "Can you point to the brown bear?" Make sure to cover the target vocabulary/animals (brown bear, red bird, blue horse, yellow duck).
4. **Singing Time (5 mins)**: Sing a simple song that incorporates the target vocabulary. This not only reinforces the vocabulary but also provides a fun and enjoyable acJvity.
## Part 2: Art and CraC AcDvity
### AcDvity: "Colourful Animal CreaDon"
**Learning ObjecJves:**
By the end of this acJvity, students should be able to:
1. Recognize the colours associated with different animals from the story. 2. Develop fine motor skills through hands-on craR acJvity.
**Materials List:**
1. Paper plates
2. Pre-cut rectangular coloured paper (brown, red, blue, yellow)
3. Pre-drawn and pre-cut snouts, ears, and beaks (see image references below) 4. Googly eyes
5. CraR glue
### Class Details:
1. **InstrucJons (5 mins)**: Explain the acJvity to the children. Show them how to select the coloured paper of the animal they want to make, and guide them in glueing the pieces onto the paper plate. Show them the sample you prepared earlier as a reference.
2. **Art and CraR Time (20 mins)**: Let the children choose the animal they want to create and guide them as they work on their craR. Encourage them to recall the colours associated with each animal from the story. As you walk around to check on their progress, don't forget to use a marker to write their names at the back or on the bofom right of the paper plate.

3. **Review and Closure (5 mins)**: Ask each child to show their "Colourful Animal" to the class, and ask them quesJons about it such as "What animal is this?" or "What colour is your animal?" Praise their effort and creaJvity.
4. **Wash Up (5 mins)**: Guide the children in cleaning up their work area and washing their hands aRer the craR acJvity. This is a good opportunity to teach them about cleanliness and responsibility.
## Notes for Teachers:
- Use clear, simple language and speak slowly.
- Ensure all acJviJes are developmentally appropriate for 2-year-olds. Allow the children to learn at their own pace.
- Provide assistance and posiJve feedback as needed.
- Use a variety of visual aids and physical acJviJes to keep the students engaged. - Remember that for 2-year-olds, the focus is on exposure and repeJJon rather than mastery. - Make the lesson fun and engaging.
- Reinforce learning through repeJJon and hands-on acJviJes.
- Be gentle with correcJons and offer lots of praise to moJvate the students. - Before the art and craR acJvity, remind the children to roll up their sleeves and each wear an apron to protect their clothes.
- Communicate with the partner teachers about when to hand out the artwork - either at the end of the class or in the next class.
