Tiny Tales Lesson Plan 

Lesson 4 Healthy Fruit 

## Course Aim: 

The Tiny Tales course encourages toddlers to learn English through immersive story-based  experiences. It nurtures language acquisition, cognitive development, and a passion for  narratives by involving students in interactive tales and related activities. 

**Age:** 2 years old 

**Class Size:** 3 children 

**Class Duration:** 1 hour

Experiment with the art materials and techniques to familiarize yourself  with potential challenges and outcomes.

## Lesson 4: Healthy Fruit 

**Learning Objectives:** 

By the end of this activity, students should be able to: 

1. Identify and name various fruits with warm colors. 

2. Use dry pastels to create a colorful artwork depicting a basket of fruit. 3. Develop fine motor skills through drawing, cutting, and pasting activities. 

**Materials List:** 

- Pastel papers (various warm colors) 

- Dry pastels 

- Scissors (for teacher use or with close supervision) 

- Glue 

- Brown paper for creating the basket 

- White paper for background 

- Colorful border materials (e.g., patterned washi tape, colored paper strips) 

### Preparation: 

Before the lesson, the teacher should: 

1. Pre-cut brown paper into strips that can be woven or shaped into a basket. 2. Prepare samples of fruit drawings and a completed basket of fruit for demonstration. 3. Ensure all pastels and papers are safe and suitable for use by children.

1. **Introduction (5 mins)**: 

 - Introduce the art activity by showing examples of fruit baskets and discussing the types of  fruits they will be drawing. 

 - Recap the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," emphasizing the fruits mentioned in the  story. 

2. **Drawing and Coloring the Fruit (20 mins)**: 

 - Distribute pastel papers and dry pastels to each student. 

 - Demonstrate how to draw simple shapes of fruits like apples, oranges, and bananas.  - Guide the students as they draw and color their fruits using dry pastels.  - Encourage them to think about the texture and colors of different fruits. 

3. **Creating the Basket (10 mins)**: 

 - Show the students how to use the pre-cut brown paper to make a basket. They can either  weave the strips or shape them into a basket form. 

 - Assist students in gluing their baskets onto a white paper background. 

4. **Assembling the Basket of Fruit (10 mins)**: 

 - Once the fruits are drawn and the baskets are ready, have students cut out their fruit  drawings. 

 - Guide them to arrange and glue the fruits into the basket, creating a full and vibrant display.  - Add a colorful border around the artwork to frame their creations beautifully. 

5. **Cleanup (5 mins)**: 

 - Assist children with cleaning up their spaces, organizing materials, and washing their hands. 

## Assessment: 

- Observe if the children can identify and name the fruits they are drawing. - Assess their ability to use dry pastels to effectively represent different fruits. - Evaluate their fine motor skills in cutting and pasting activities. 

## Notes for Teachers: 

- Encourage individual expression in the artwork; each child’s fruit basket can look different. - Provide assistance as needed, especially with cutting and pasting. 

- Praise each student's effort to boost confidence and enjoyment in art-making.
