Tiny Tales Lesson Plan 

Lesson 7 Waterlily Pond 

## Course Aim: 

The Tiny Tales course encourages toddlers to learn English through immersive story-based  experiences. It nurtures language acquisition, cognitive development, and a passion for  narratives by involving students in interactive tales and related activities. 

**Age:** 2 years old 

**Class Size:** 3 children 

**Class Duration:** 1 hour

## Lesson 7: Waterlily Pond 

## Learning Objectives: 

By the end of this activity, students should be able to: 

1. Create a mixed-media representation of a pond with waterlilies, inspired by the story and  the art focus. 

2. Utilize techniques such as pointillism with acrylic paints and drawing with oil pastels. 3. Develop fine motor skills through cutting, sticking, and painting activities. 

## Materials List: 

- Round paper plates or round drawing papers (one per student) 

- Mixed media materials (colored tissue papers, fabric scraps, foil, etc.) - Acrylic paints (blue, green, white, pink, yellow) 

- Oil pastels 

- Green paper pre-cut into waterlily pad shapes 

- Scissors (for teacher use or under close supervision) 

- Glue sticks or liquid glue 

- Markers 

- Additional decorative materials (optional): small fish or insect stickers 

### Preparation: 

Before the class, the teacher should: 

1. Ensure all materials are prepared and organized on the materials table. 2. Pre-cut green paper into waterlily pad shapes to save time during the class.

3. Create a sample waterlily pond using the techniques planned for the class to serve as an  example for the students. 

4. Review safety guidelines for using scissors and handling acrylic paints. ### Class Details: 

1. **Introduction (5 mins)**: 

 - Introduce the art focus by briefly discussing the story "Katie and the Waterlily Pond" and  showing images of waterlily ponds, especially those painted by Monet.  - Discuss the different materials and techniques they will be using today. 

2. **Creating the Pond Base (10 mins)**: 

 - Distribute a round paper plate or round drawing paper to each student.  - Demonstrate how to stick mixed media materials on the paper to create the texture of  water in the pond. 

 - Allow students to choose their materials and begin creating their pond base. 

3. **Painting Waterlilies (10 mins)**: 

 - Show students how to use acrylic paint to create waterlilies using the pointillism technique.  - Encourage them to dab small dots of paint to form the shape of waterlilies, experimenting  with colour mixing on the palette or directly on the paper. 

4. **Adding the Waterlily Pads (10 mins)**: 

 - Demonstrate how to use oil pastels to draw vines on the pre-cut waterlily pads.  - Assist students in sticking these pads onto their pond, arranging them artistically around  the painted waterlilies. 

5. **Finishing Touches (10 mins)**: 

 - If time allows, show students how to draw fish or insects with markers on separate paper,  cut them out, and stick them onto the pond to add more life to their artwork.  - Encourage the students to look at their ponds and add any additional details or  improvements. 

6. **Clean-Up and Review (5 mins)**: 

 - Help students clean up their spaces and organize the materials. 

 - Display all the finished artworks and conduct a short discussion, allowing students to share  their thoughts about their creations and the techniques they used.
